PhD (bioengineering), Arizona State University, 2010. Dissertation on computational molecular modeling of peptide interactions with proteins. EXPERIENCE / EMPLOYMENT  
HISTORY  


February 2007 to 2008: Intellectual property specialist, Center for Innovations in Medicine, Arizona Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University. Full time responsibility for intellectual property development for an innovation-driven biotech research center with a research staff of approximately 50 scientists and technologists.

2004 to 2006 and 2009-2010: Full time Phd student, Harrington Department of Bioengineering, Arizona State University.

1997 to 2003: Member of computer science faculty of Cochise College, Sierra Vista, Arizona. Responsible for teaching courses in programming (C, C++, Java, Perl, Data Structures, Algorithms) and designed, created, and delivered the college's online C programming and Java programming offerings.

Since 1995 and currently: Various law-related projects on an individual basis, including managing a complex decedent's estate as trustee, writing a textbook on civil procedure law, consulting on financial and securities litigation matters, and handling pro bono cases under the Arizona Volunteer Lawyer's Program.

1978 to 1995: Private law practice focusing on financial and securities litigation. Over a ten year period managed (on behalf of three participating law firms) securities class action litigation involving multiple lawsuits and leading to (then) Arizona record $14 million settlement. Represented private clients in a variety of commercial litigation, corporate, and contract matters.

1978 to 1985: Conducted part-time pro bono practice from office in South Phoenix representing clients lacking access to legal system.

1975 to 1978: Associate attorney with Wentworth & Lundin, a Phoenix law firm engaged in general corporate, real estate, and litigation practice (since merged with Gallagher & Kennedy).

Summer, 1974: Summer associate with O'Melveny & Myers in the Los Angeles office.

1971 to 1972: Engineer in training, Arizona Department of Transportation.

1971: Officer candidate, USMC, Quantico, Virginia. Honorably discharged at convenience of government.

1970: engineer in training, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Research Center, West Palm Beach, Florida.



OTHER  


Bilingual in Spanish. Former co-publisher of and frequent contributor to El Sol, Arizona's (then) only Spanish language newspaper. Reading fluency in Portuguese.
